Sherlockian Program Returns to Pratt Library for 37th Year


The A Saturday with Sherlock Holmes program returns for its 37th consecutive year to the Enoch Pratt Free Library on Saturday, November 12th. Starting at 10A, the program will be held at the Orleans Street Branch (1303 Orleans Street, at Central Avenue) for the second year as the Central Branch continues to go through renovations. Admission to the program is free and there is free parking available on the library’s lot (enter off of Central Avenue).

The theme for this year’s program is “But, is it Literature?” Refreshments begin at 10 a.m., and the program then kicks off at 11 a.m. with emcee Jacquelyn Morris, BSI, ASH. Presentations include:

Doyle’s/Watson’s Grasp on Chronology – Vincent Wright 11:10 am
Isn’t He A Character? – James Young 11:20 am
Boy’s Adventure Stories – Susan Bailey 11:30 am
How Watson Snares His Audience – Daniel Thomas, BSI 11:40 am
American Law vs British Law – The Detective Story – LeRoy Panek 11:45 am
Doyle So Loved Horror That He Gave Us. . . – Beth Austin, ASH Noon
SO, Is It Literature? – Andrew Solberg, BSI, ASH 12:10 pm

After the program will be The Inquisition, a bloodless quiz with questions based on the preceding presentations. The highest score will win a prize from the Mystery Loves Company bookstore in Oxford, Maryland.

The program has been coordinated by Beth Austin, ASH, for third consecutive year. The program is sponsored by the Enoch Pratt Free Library, in partnership with the Six Napoleons of Baltimore, Watson’s Tin Box and the Sherlockians of Baltimore.

For those interested in continuing the conversation over lunch, space has been reserved at the Heavy Seas Ale House, 1300 Bank Street. This is just a few blocks south of the library, straight down Central Avenue. A city-operated parking garage is opposite the restaurant.
